“TRICKS
OF THE TRADE”
FIRM HANDS
This tip comes to us courtesy of Ted J. Currie, president of Imperial Mortuary Services, a mortuary company in the Tampa Bay area. Thank you very much, Ted, for this excellent advice!
All embalmers are (or should be!) concerned
about the level of tissue firmness they achieve in their cases. Certainly, the
firmness of the decedent's hands is of importance. In order to accomplish
appropriate firmness, after embalming, place a five-pound bag of sand on each of
the hands overnight. The next day, there will be no marks, and the hands will
be firm.
